Weather: We started late today, due to rain. After the rain stopped, the sky was still grey, though occasional blue flecks reminded us of the sky above the clouds. The stacks at the power plant to the north of us were illuminated by the sun several times, which was an interesting juxtaposition with grey surroundings. The wind came from the north, and barometric pressure increased as the day progressed. Raptor Observations: Buteos began migrating almost immediately after the rain stopped. We had some great looks at Red-tailed Hawks flying overhead, as well as at Turkey Vultures and Red-shouldered Hawks. One very distant Golden Eagle was spotted to the south, though never came close to offer a satisfying view. Non-raptor Observations: We spotted our first Tundra Swans of the year (about 15), and had at least 525 American Crows fly overhead. Predictions: Tomorrow is predicted to be cloudy with winds coming from the east. More Red-tailed Hawks will probably be moving. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
