Observation start time: 09:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 6 hours
Official Counter: Bob Johnstone
Observers: Cary Graham, Chris Burris, Jason McGuire, Matt Oswald,
Ronnie Goodhand
Visitors:
Thanks to the crew that got today's count done... Bob who was the counter
and spotters Cary, Chris, Matt, Ronnie and Jason.
Weather:
As expected, winds hung in strong from the NW and despite some heavy cloud
banks both to the north and to the east the birds were on the move. Temp
got to a high of 9C.
Raptor Observations:
Total birds tallied for the day was 526... mostly split between TVs (270)
and Sharpies (143). However, there were some good numbers of Bald Eagles
(22) and N. Harriers (19)... and we had out first couple of Rough-legged
Hawks for the season. Also noted were Cooper's (6), Red-shouldered (2),
Redtails (51), Am. Kestrels (7) and Merlin (2) and another couple of Golden
Eagles.
Non-raptor Observations:
In the other category today they spotted Field and Song sparrows, both RC
and GC Kinglets, Myrtle Warbler, Purple Finch, Horned Lark, BC Chickadee,
Common Loon, Bonaparte's Gulls, Common Merganser, N. Cardinal, Hermit
Thrush, Blue Jays, E. Bluebirds and a Common Raven (first one spotted this
season).
Predictions:
Tuesday looks similar to today though with more solid cloud cover but
moderate to strong NW winds. There's only a small chance of precip so birds
should be moving.
