Weather: Little cloud to start but closing in late in the count period. Winds were moderate to strong from the SSW and then straight S with up the cliff again today. Temp got to a high of 20C...almost an instant replay of yesterday. Raptor Observations: Once again it was a small flight with a total of just 28 birds...but there were a few great birds...Peregrines... 5 of which cruised through past the hawkwatch! Other birds were TVs (11), N. Harriers (2), Sharpies (9) and a late and lonely Broadwing. :) Non-raptor Observations: The Blue Jays moved through again today but in smaller numbers with 540...while other species included Veery, BT Blue Warbler, Am. Crow, Am. Goldfinch, N. Flicker, E. Phoebe, WB and RB Nuthatch, RC and GC Kinglets, Red-eyed and Blue-headed Vireos, warblers (N. Parula, BT Blue, Myrtle, BT Green, Orange-crowned, Nashville and Magnolia), sparrows (White-crowned, White-throated, Song and Lincoln's), Am. Robin, Gray Catbird, BC Chickadee, Downy Woodpecker. And I've been remiss in reporting Monarchs... there were 8 yesterday and another 48 today! Predictions: Thursday they're predicting moderate NW winds with lots of cloud to start. As long as the rain ends before daybreak I think there's a chance for a bit of a flight tomorrow. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.on.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
