Weather: A surprising lack of rain for most of the day today! It rained for about 15 minutes around 14:00, then again when the count finished at 16:00. Winds were out of the NE. Raptor Observations: Today was quite a surprise, migration wise. The number of Turkey Vultures, Broad-winged Hawks, and Red-tailed Hawks were the biggest surprise today. Also a decent count for Northern Harriers, 3 of which were adult males. Non-raptor Observations: Not quite the diversity of yesterday, but pretty close! Big surprise when the count first started in the morning as the Blue Jay count was already over 5,000 within the first 15 minutes of the count! Ended up with a total of 23,350. Gulls were also moving inland from the lake in high numbers. Numbers of dabbling ducks are on the increase, with good numbers of Gadwall, American Wigeon, and Northern Pintail. 9 Species of Warbler today. For the full eBird checklist, go to http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S31830611 3 Monarchs seen today. Predictions: More rain with risk of thunderstorms all day tomorrow. South winds. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Sean Jenniskens ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
