Reporting for Tim McCarthy
On site from 5:45 am to 3:00 pm. Running solo for 1st part of the day
until many birders arrived include 'A'-lister David Pryor and made the day
fly by since it was a VERY SLOW day bird-wise and SLOW day Whimbrel wise
with only two small flock: 5 at 7:29 am and 14 (that initially and
intermittently hung around west of the Whimbrel point from 8:13 to 9:10 am
and eventually flew calling over the point to bid the birds "*hello and
good by"* and then carried on north. This brings the WHIMBREL TOTAL for
the first 3 days of the watch to *201*.
Other shorebirds: 2 Killdeer: 4 Black-bellied Plover and 2 Spotted
Sandpiper. The find of day was a 1st winter-plumaged male King Eider far
out on the lake but found by David Pryor and all birds present at the time
were able to see all the salient field marks. The total of 53 Common Loons
were a huge increase from the first two counts. I thank the 25+ birders who
helped me out today.

A reminder that the Toronto Ornithological Club as a guided bird walk
by *A-lister
birders: Petra and Jim Grass* starting at 7:30 am tomorrow departing from
southern-most parking lot at the south end of Colonel Samuel Smith drive
which is an extension of Kipling south of Lakeshore. First stop: the
Whimbrel Watch from Whimbrel Point.

Happy birding tomorrow on day 2 of the long weekend.
