Hi Ontbirders, My brother and I headed up to Angler Line to try for Yellow-headed Blackbird at the western end of Angler Line on Lake St. Clair. After about 15 minutes of scanning my brother finally spotted one. We had to get the scope to 60x power to see it's yellow head, the bird was directly out from the end of Angler Line in one of the reed/phragmites beds sitting low because of the howling wind - it is the furthest reed bed out (scope necessary). While there we had 6 Great Egret, a Common Gallinule, 2 Pied-billed Grebe, 2 Green Heron and a Black-crowned Night-Heron.
At Rondeau, we had the White-winged Dove at about 9:30am from near 17244 Lakeshore Rd, and then again at 2:30 calling NE of the maintenance yard. The bird is ranging far as it was heard by Reuven Martin's bird hike along the marsh trail in the evening on Friday. Also at Rondeau today, although very quiet, was a Clay-colored Sparrow feeding with Chipping & Savannah Sparrows at the base of the old pier near the entrance to the park and two Prothonotary Warblers on Tulip Tree trail. Cheers & good birding, Frank & Rob Pinilla Directions: Angler Line is just south of Mitchell's Bay and 25km north of Chatham, head up Bear Line or up Hwy 40 to Angler and turn left all the way to its western end. Rondeau PP is south of the 401, exit #101, Kent Bridge Rd. and go south to the lake following signs to the park.
