Good morning! What a difference from yesterday! Although we still don't have really huge numbers of warblers and other migrants in the park, there are lots of birds to see, and at least 18 warbler species have been reported already. The Tulip Tree Trail and Visitor Centre area have had the most birds reported so far.
The White-winged Dove continues to be seen in the cottage area along Lakeshore Rd. south of the visitor centre. Prothonotary Warbler(s) continue to be seen at post 7 on Tulip Tree Trail. Hooded Warbler and Scarlet Tanager have also been here. A Red-throated Loon has been showing very well at the washout on South Point Trail.A Prothonotary and Blue-winged Warbler were also both present briefly. There is definitely more to find out there! Thank you to everyone who contributed sightings and please continue to do so to me through email, or to the Visitor Centre in person or at (519) 674-1768. More information on the park's nature programs and the Friends of Rondeau is available at the Friends' website: www.rondeauprovincialpark.ca. Directions: Take exit 101 from Highway 401 and drive South 16 km on Chatham Kent Road 15. Turn right and follow the signs to the park. Bird sighting information, bird checklists, bird feeders, and breakfast and lunch offered by the Friends can be found at the visitor centre. To reach the visitor centre from the park gate, travel 6 km South on Rondeau Road to Gardiner Ave., then follow it around the bend to the parking lot. I lead guided hikes in the park twice daily - contact the visitor centre for more information.
