This afternoon at approximately 2:05 I found a White-eyed vireo on the east side of the Darlington Nuclear Trail. The bird stayed low (10-15ft) for a full 3-4 minutes while it fed on midges, which allowed me to enjoy some crippling looks. I could clearly see its yellow spectacles and flanks and its tell-tale white eye. The bird didn't vocalise while I was there (but that could change as we head into the evening) and it seemed in no way disturbed by my presence so it may linger.
I found it on the east side of the nuclear trail, on the section that runs north south. It was about three quarters of the way up the gentle gravel hill just to the south of a lone row of pine trees (the trees can easily be seen as you drive in). To get to Darlington Nuclear from Toronto, take the 401 East to Holt Rd. Head south from the exit and then make a right on Energy Drive.Take a left on Park road which is about 2km west of Holt. There are two parking lots you can use at both the south and north end of the trail. Happy birding! _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
