Hello Ontbirders,

Just a quick note from the northern parts of York Region. This morning I
headed up to the Ravenshoe Road fields just west of Leslie Street. Pretty
quiet on the fields but an early Greater Yellowlegs was a treat, along with
Killdeer, Green-winged Teal and nesting Bald Eagle (only saw the female
sitting on the nest, just off Bruce Street), male probably out fishing.

Up on Cook's Bay (southern end of Lake Simcoe), I had a flock of between
1,500-2,000 ducks of various species including 8 Canvasback, ~150 American
Wigeon, 750 Ring-necked Duck, a few Lesser Scaup, ~500 Redhead, ~300
Greater Scaup as well as others. Also here, way over by the cattails were
4 American Coots + 3 Tundra Swan flying over (they tend to prefer the
northern terminus of Bathurst Street a bit to the SW of this area. Best to
go with a scope as the birds were well out.

Cheers & good birding,

DIRECTIONS:
Take Hwy 404 to its northern terminus at Woodbine Ave, turn north on
Woodbine and then west on Ravenshoe - go beyond Leslie Street and down to
the fields in the area.

To view the bottom end of Cook's Bay, take Lake Street north from Ravenshoe
Rd (note that the sign for Lake & Ravenshoe is twisted around, so you can
miss it, but it's just east of Bruce Street) until you see a small park and
boat ramp, called Young's Harbour Park.
