Hi, The Rideau River has it¹s annual concentrations of Canada Geese staging about in the area, with varying numbers seem daily flying in various directions to feed in nearby fields. There¹s been no particularly large numbers to speak of. At about 3:30pm, I saw a small skein of roughly 40 dark morph Snow Geese being lead by a light morph bird, that also had a decidedly runt- looking light morph bird at the tailing end of the right hand ³V².
As best as I could tell through bins, it looked like a very good candidate for a Ross¹s Goose. Along with the smaller size, it had a very short neck, with a small round head, and small bill. The flock appeared more focused on just following the river in a general northward direction toward Ottawa. Good birding, Gerard Phillips Merrickville. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
