There has been very little reporting of bird movements so far this spring on this ListServe so thought I’d provide a quick update on birds north of the lakeshore.
Today I observed: several Pine Siskins (10-15) doing courtship flights Red-shouldered Hawk – scouting? 2 Cooper’s Hawks doing courtship flight Merlin - hunting Eastern Meadowlark – flyover 7 Northern Pintails – flyover Of course Cardinals, Red-wings and Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers are making they presence obvious too as they sing or drum to announce their intentions. I find the best time to observe migration is between dawn and about 8 a.m. this time of year. Of course birds move outside this time frame, but the activity is often specular earlier in the day. All sightings near Lakeridge and Reach Streets Geoff Carpentier AVOCET NATURE SERVICES Contact me at: 905-852-2011 or [email protected] Visit my website: www.avocetnatureservices.com Specializing in Environmental & Natural History Surveys and Expedition & Personalized Guiding Services _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
