Hi all.
I just returned from the site of the Smew's sightings this morning and
yesterday afternoon.
A number of people were there to check the ducks returning to their roosting
area from at least 1:30 in the afternon. A flock of probably over 1000 birds
build up in late afternoon, close to the island in front of the mainland, so a
number of people went to the causeway on the island while a few of us stayed at
the original site.
>From talking to other people who were there it appears that the Smew was not
>seen from either side at dusk. Perhaps will it show up again tomorrow
>morning. I have the feeling many people would like to know if it is found
>again tomorrow morning, or searched for and not found.
Good luck to anyone trying tomorrow.

> The birding in Eastern Ontario continues to be unpredictable and exciting. It
> doesn’t appear to be slowing down too soon. The weather forecast for the next

> The Smew was observed at first light today along the St. Lawrence River just
> east of Long Sault along Hwy 2 at Fickes Road. The Smew flew west and
> disappeared. Fortunately for a few of us while scanning the river it was
> spotted flying back, landing briefly in the same location before taking
> flight again and heading west along the river. A number of us searched
> various areas but no luck. The bird may return at dusk and I’d check tomorrow
> at dawn.

> Laflèche Road when we arrived but shortly after a small flock landed followed
> by 5-8 thousands and the PFGO was spotted. Lots of patience is required to

> in its favourite apple tree at the south west end of Dalkeith St. at 3:15p.m.
