After having been away for a few days winter birding, I decided to start my day on my deck ...
the first sighting of interest was the Pine Siskins doing their morning rally call .. they fly is ever expanding circles ranging many hundred meters calling about once a second to gather a flock for the days foraging. While watching them a single Bohemian Waxwing briefly joined the circuit and called for its pals before it headed westward alone. A single Common Loon flew over high – latest ever for my yard for a migrating loon. A trip to Bird’s Eye View Park in Port Perry was productive - here I saw: 750+ Canada Geese 59 swans – far away but likely all Trumpeters many Mallards 4 American Wigeon 2 Gadwall 125 Bufflehead 475+ Common Mergansers 115 Redheads 5 Greater Scaup 275 Common Goldeneye 125 Bufflehead these are unprecedented numbers this late in the season up here in the hinterland Bird’s Eye Park is immediately north of the library in Port Perry Geoff Carpentier AVOCET NATURE SERVICES Contact me at: 905-852-2011 or [email protected] Visit my website: www.avocetnatureservices.com Specializing in Environmental & Natural History Surveys and Expedition & Personalized Guiding Services _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
