Weather:
Outside an occasional cirrus sighting, the sky remained as yesterday: sunny
and clear. Unlike yesterday, though, a thin layer of distant haze failed to
burn away, limiting visibility throughout. Slightly cooler, temperatures
rose quickly in the morning but eventually flat-lined in the low 50s. When
there was wind, it was light and out of the south.
Raptor Observations:
Consistent with recent outings, a rapidly closing window of midday movement
produced most of the day's activity. Red-tailed Hawks and Northern Harriers
carried the bulk of the flight but another close dark morph Rough-legged
Hawk provided the day's highlight. Do note the addition of one American
Kestrel as well. Unexpectedly, we caught another November kestrel speeding
past today. Not since the fall of 2009 has an American Kestrel been tallied
this late in the season.
Non-raptor Observations:
Redhead (1), Lesser Scaup (1), Common Goldeneye (3), Bufflehead (29),
Tundra Swan (60+), Common Loon (1), Killdeer (4), American Goldfinch
(280+), Horned Lark (70+), American Crow (60+), Winter Wren (1), Eastern
Bluebird (1), Monarch (2)
Predictions:
Overcast with cooler temps and moderate southeast wind.
