Visitors:
Thanks to everyone who helped spot today (15+).
Weather:
Sunny and clear at the start, it wasn't long before a selection of bulging
cumulus wafted into view. Fortuitously, the clouds decided to stick around
for a while thereafter, aiding us in our endeavor. Unexpectedly, they
turned against us late, pelting the count site with a brief bout of rain.
Temperatures remained mild, reaching the mid 50s but no higher. The wind
was out of the west all day, strengthening after noon.
Raptor Observations:
After a week waiting out less-than-ideal conditions, a barrage of
Red-tailed Hawks battered the viewing area this afternoon. Zooming in from
a multitude of flight lines, stream after stream swept through, sometimes
low and skimming the treetops, other times exceptionally high and backed by
well-sculpted clouds. Often accompanied, Red-shouldered Hawks joined them
in their journey as did a nice number of vultures, six more Golden Eagles
and a dark morph Rough-legged Hawk, rounding out an active and enjoyable
early November outing.
Non-raptor Observations:
American Crow (150+), Red-winged Blackbird (70+), Cedar Waxwing (20),
Horned Lark (15), American Goldfinch (20+), Pine Siskin (1), American Tree
Sparrow (1), Hooded Merganser (1), Canvasback (20+)
Predictions:
Mostly sunny with mild temps and light west wind.
