But flawless, while pleasant, is also kind of boring. Bad weather is far more interesting. Luckily, I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to soak up some bad weather later this month. I can't wait! Raptor Observations: Often rushing by close and overhead, Sharp-shinned and Cooper's hawks dominated the morning hours. One Golden and a handful of Red-tailed and Red-shouldered hawks mixed in, all frequenting a by now well-worn flight line: low along the trees and well to our north. Activity dipped in the afternoon once again but two late falcons, one Merlin and one kestrel, and an eight-harrier final hour kept us amused and engaged. Non-raptor Observations: American Crow (1300+), Red-winged Blackbird (300+), Cedar Waxwing (120+), Horned Lark (65+), American Goldfinch (80+), Pine Siskin (13), scaup sp. (2000+), Monarch (2) Predictions: Mostly cloudy with morning fog, warm temps and moderate south wind. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
