Pointed out to Owen by a non-birder who had "never seen that bird before" Owen Strickland and I observed and photographed at close range late Saturday afternoon a Red-necked Phalarope at Tommy Thompson park in Toronto.
The bird was right off the tip at the lighthouse no more than 3 to 5 meters offshore. When I left at five to six the bird was still present (sorry Owen, it was still there). Tommy Thompson park juts into Lake Ontario at the foot of Leslie at just east of the downtown core. Please note it is roughly a five kilometre one way walk or bike to the lighthouse from the entry.
