Hi Everyone

My internet has been down since last week and only up since yesterday. These
are additional reports to the recent Ottawa-Gatineau report.

With the unsettled weather over the past couple of days, I spent the day
birding various sites along the Ottawa River. This morning at Shirley’s Bay
there was one juvenile Red-throated Loon along the west side of the causeway
along with a late Spotted Sandpiper. Since the recent rain water levels along
the river have increase but there was still some habitat/mudflats at various
locations. At Shirley’s Bay there were 2 Black-bellied Plover, 5 White-rumped
Sandpiper, and 7 Dunlin and at Andrew Haydon Park there was 1 Black-bellied
Plover, 11 Dunlin, 2 White-rumped Sandpiper and 1 Greater Yellowlegs. At
Britannia Conservation Area/Mud Lake a late Northern Parula and a Blue-headed
Vireo were observed along the ridge. At the Deschenes Rapids the female
Harlequin Duck was observed feeding mid way across from Britannia Point. At
Remic Rapids a male Barrow’s Goldeneye was observed. This individual was first
observed on October 27. The long staying Short-billed Dowitcher was last
observed at Richmond Conservation Area on October 26 along with one Long-billed
Dowitcher.

Good birding,

Bruce

Directions: Directions: Shirley's Bay: From Ottawa take Hwy. 417 west to the
Moodie Drive exit and turn north (right) on Moodie Drive and continue to
Carling Ave. Turn left at Carling Ave. and follow Carling to Rifle Road. Turn
right (north) on Rifle Rd. Park at the lot at the end (boat launch). Walk back
to the road, and continue through the gate on the Department of National

"No Entry" signs) which heads into the woods, and, eventually to the causeway.
There is lots of POISON IVY along the causeway.

**** PLEASE NOTE**** YOU MUST OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM THE RANGE CONTROL
OFFICE BEFORE ENTERING THE SHIRLEY'S BAY CAUSEWAY AREA -- Call (613) 991-5740
