On October 23 Bob Wilson found and photographed a PURPLE GALLINULE on the
Rose Point Recreational Trail (aka Park to Park trail) just outside of
Parry Sound. The photo and report were sent to Chris Blomme for
identification and were forwarded to me in my role as the OBRC Secretary
this morning after he reviewed them.

I do not believe anyone has subsequently looked for this bird so it may (or
may not!) still be present. The bird appeared healthy feeding along the
edge of cattails near Canada Geese.

The location is at approximately 45.319724, -80.005323; from looking at
Google Maps, this trail may be accessible from the east off of James Bay
Junction Road (~1 km) or Rose Point Road to the west (~2.5 km) or possibly
from the north from a road with no name on Google (~1 km).

The OBRC has accepted 17 previous records of this species, 13 of which were
in the fall. Of those fall records, 7 were injured birds taken into care or
found dead. The remaining 6 included two birds that stayed for a week.

Cheers,
Mike Burrell
OBRC Secretary
