Visitors:
Visitors included Brett with Ontario Filed Ornithologists, David and Toni
Bird from Vancouver Island, and Paula Jarjosa from Michigan.
Weather:
NNE to NE winds at 20-40 km/r with temperatures ranging from 8.8 to 11
degrees. Intermittent drizzle turned to steady rain during the final hour
of the count.
Raptor Observations:
While volume of birds was significantly down from the past two days, we had
good diversity with 10 species of raptors observed. 3 adult and one
immature resident Bald Eagles were up over the marsh today. Thanks to
Rayfield Pye, Donald Pye, Donny Moore, Mike Williamson, Jim McCoy and Bob
Hall-Brooks who helped with today's count.
Non-raptor Observations:
2 Common Loons flew overhead along with a small flock of Bonaparte's Gulls.
Several Duck species including Wood, American Black, Ruddy and Mallard.
Other species included Canada Goose 20, Mute Swan 52, Double-crested
Cormorant 85, Great Blue Heron 4, Great Egret 17, Ringed-billed Gull 42,
Herring Gull 3, Caspian Tern 1, Belted Kingfisher 2, Downy Woodpecker 1,
Northern Flicker 1, Blue Jay 315, American Crow 12, Tree Swallow 24,
American Robin 5, European Starling 70, Dark-eyed Junco 2, Northern
Cardinal 2, Red-winged Blackbird 15, and American Goldfinch 12.
Predictions:
Precipitation is expected to move out of the area leaving cloudy skies with
a high temperature of 16 degrees. Moderating winds from the East should
allow reasonable conditions for migrants.
