Weather:
Only a few stray puffy white clouds stood between us and a start-to-finish
blue sky. Pleasant throughout, temperatures hovered around the low 70s for
most of the day. The wind was moderate and out of the east.
Raptor Observations:
Broad-winged Hawks kept on coming into the evening hours, frequently
amassing in awe-inspiring aggregations and streaming out high over the
stacks. But out of the many thousands of broadwings counted today, one in
particular caught everyone's attention during the 11 o'clock hour. Embedded
among a small overhead stream was a rare-in-the-East dark morph broadwing
struggling to blend in with the many light morphs arrayed around him. As
for other species, Sharp-shinned Hawks started the day strong but petered
out in the afternoon and Peregrine Falcons put on quite the show, blasting
by low and close during the late morning.
Non-raptor Observations:
Blue Jay (4000+), Ruby-throated Hummingbird (5), Black Saddlebags (9),
Common Green Darner (8), Monarch (208),
Predictions:
Mostly sunny with highs in the mid 70s and light east wind.
