Weather:
Winds were S to SSW and moderate for the count period. The clouds started
to move in and eventually the rain too. Temp got to a high of 24C.
Raptor Observations:
Total birds for today was 157. The morning started well with a beautiful
look at a male harrier that stopped to hunt in the field in front of the
mound before moving on. We had fairly strong S to SW winds, bringing some
very fast flying Kestrels and shins and also a Peregrine along the cliff.
But near to noon the clouds came and the winds dropped to nothing. Ended
the day early with some nice looks at Osprey as the rain started and solid
cloud took over.
Non-raptor Observations:
2 Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Redstart, Swainson's Thrush, Wood Duck, RE Vireo
, BB Cuckoo, White-throated Sparrow, RT Hummingbirds, House Wren, E.
Bluebird, N. Flicker
, RB Woodpecker and Cedar Waxwings
17 Monarchs counted from the mound
Saddlebags
Green darners
Cabbage white
Predictions:
Wet to start the day on Saturday but with stronger SW winds till later in
the afternoon there MIGHT just be a Peregrine or two that zip by along the
cliff. Sunday is looking much better with winds predicted to be NE to ENE
and a mix of sun and cloud.
