Some visitors today...and thanks to everyone who helped with the count and
observing...Jen, Derek, Ronnie, Matt, Keith, Mary, Cary, Mike S., Michael
(Oakville) and Clive.
Weather:
Winds were W in the early morning but switched to SW fairly early. Very
little cloud cover all day. Temp to a high of 24C.
Raptor Observations:
The counters were first greeted with a Broadwing calling in the forest near
the mound in the morning but the Broadwing flight, as expected, just didn't
happen today (we had 2 of them)....most likely the birds were way inland.
However, there were birds on the move with a total of 241 today. The bulk
were Sharpies (113) and Am. Kestrels (102) along with N. Harriers (20),
Merlin (3) and lastly a single Bald Eagle.
Non-raptor Observations:
RB Woodpecker, C. Waxwings, House Wren, Catbird, RT Hummingbirds, Pileated
WP, Downy WP, Hairy WP, YB Sapsucker, N. Flicker, Warblers ...Black &
White, Magnolia, Am. Redstart, Pine Warbler, Blue-Winged, C. Yellowthroat,
62 Monarchs counted from the mound
Saddlebags (tons)
Green darners (tons)
Predictions:
More of the same tomorrow and most of the rest of the week with winds
predicted to be predominantly from the south and getting warmer as we head
towards Thursday.
