Haze, so abundant the last three outings, was gladly nowhere to be found today. The wind was light and variable early, shifting to the east and picking up in intensity later. Raptor Observations: Quiet overall, a brief late day spurt pushed our American Kestrel, Northern Harrier and Osprey numbers slightly higher. Accipiters and buteos continue to be missing in action, though. Non-raptor Observations: Lots of songbirds were on the move this morning, swallows most prominent among them: Purple Martin (52), Tree Swallow (68), Barn Swallow (54), Northern Rough-winged Swallow (75), Bank Swallow (4), Chimney Swift (33), Cape May Warbler (2), Black-and-white Warbler (1), Blackpoll Warbler (5), Bay-breasted Warbler (3), Tennessee Warbler (1), Warbling Vireo (7), Red-eyed Vireo (3), Common Grackle (9), Red-winged Blackbird (15), Cedar Waxwing (56), Ruby-throated Hummingbird (13), Northern Flicker (8), Baltimore Oriole (3), Common Loon (3), Pied-billed Grebe (1), Canada Goose (12), Forster's Tern (2), Caspian Tern (5), Black Saddlebags (6), Common Green Darner (13), Monarch (19) Predictions: Partly cloudy skies with moderate south wind, warm temps and a small chance of scattered early morning showers. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
