This morning at 9:05 on a walk through Westside Marsh in Bowmanville I spotted
a Loggerhead Shrike just to the west of the main parking lot. It flew right in
front of my son and I and perched about 15m away on top of a low bush.
We continued to observe it for about 5 mins while it moved on to two other
bushes and took prominent 'shrikelike' positions near the top. To put it
mildly, I was very surprised to find this bird in Bowmanville this morning.
To get to Westside Marsh, take the 401 E to Liberty. You take your first right
after the off ramp (Lake Road). Turn right on Port Darlington, go over the rail
road tracks and turn right onto West Beach Rd. Follow West Beach until there is
an obvious bend over the bridge, the parking lot is on your right just after
the bridge.
