Ontario birders, The Long Point Bird Observatory just wrapped up its 56th spring of migration monitoring at Long Point. Highlights from the season are summarized on the LPBO sightings board - http://www.birdscanada.org/longpoint/index.jsp?targetpg=lpbosight.
After a fairly lack-luster spring from a rarities perspective, the bird of the year (so far), a Cassin's Kingbird, was found by LPBO volunteer Taylor Brown at the Tip of Long Point on June 9. This bird marks the 400th species observed in the Long Point area, the 4th for Ontario, and the first alive since 1970. Details and a photo are available on the sightings board. LPBO's fall season and weekly updates to the sightings board will commence August 15. To get to Long Point, follow the birds, or directions are available here - http://www.birdscanada.org/longpoint/index.jsp?targetpg=lpbovisit Good birding!
