Well I did my annual Great Canadian Birdathon yesterday afternoon to this
afternoon (24 consecutive hours) with Peter Hogenbirk and Michael Duhamel.

Lots to tell as you can imagine - highlights included:

171 species

Algonquin – 5 Gray Jays and an Olive-sided Flycatcher on Mizzy Lake Trail –
area was very quiet with no real song so birding was tough

Carden – Common Gallinule, Loggerhead Shrike, Sandhills, Upland Sandpipers,
Golden-winged Warbler, Sedge Wrens (5+), eastern Whip-poor-will and Nighthawks
and much more – song still subdued and winds a bit problematic

Oshawa Second Marsh & Darlington P.P. - 600+ Whimbrel, 250+ Brant, Ruddy
Turnstone, hundreds of Dunlins, several SB Dowitchers, Wilson’s Phalarope, many
peeps and ducks – an astounding 28 Red-throated Loons (in a single high-flying
loose flock) flew in from the west and circled overhead then over the lake and
finally headed north. We have never seen anything like this before ...

Nonquon lagoons – 5 Redhead, Coot, many puddle ducks, 28 Black Terns,
Sanderling, 5 SB Dowitchers and many peeps

Miscellaneous – Kestrel, Merlin and Peregrine - 3 falcon day; YB Cuckoo near
Courtice

thanks to all my sponsors and to all who helped me find so many great birds!
