Biking on the Humber River trail last night, I past a relatively large and
shallow pond that has some mudflats. I was delighted to see several
Solitary, Least and Spotted Sandpipers along the shoreline. As I enjoyed
the view, I heard my first Willow Flycatcher singing from nearby vegetation
and then saw a Common Nighthawk overhead and moving steadily north.

Flindon Park is along the Humber River to the north of the 401 and west of
the 400. It can be accessed off the 401 at the Weston Rd exit, proceeding
north along Weston Rd about 2 km, then turning left onto Florida Crescent
which is a quiet residential street where you should park near Verobeach
Park. Walk along the paved trail through Verobeach Park and you will come
to the pond in a few minutes.

The Common Nighthawk is likely long gone, but with the shorebird habitat
this pond provides in an urban setting, other shorebirds appearing at this
pond over the short period shorebirds move north through southern Ontario,
seems likely.
