I've just come across the Bewick's Tundra Swan as previously seen yesterday
in the onion fields at Point Pelee. The bird is now sitting on the edge
of the ice in Lake Erie about 400 meters from shore adjacent to east beach
road about a kilometre south of the Hillman marsh parking lot with around
500 Tundra Swans. A scope is required. The bird was positive identified
as the "penny faced" Bewick's Swan and this is the fourth record of
Bewick's Swan for Ontario and the first for Point Pelee. This could easily
be split into a new species for North America as its already recognized as
a separate species in Europe.

It's likely this bird will move back into the onion fields soon to feed so
I will repost if it changes position.

There are also thousands of migrant ducks around and it's quite a spectacle
to see but I haven't seen the Ross's Goose as yet but will post if I come
across it.

Come enjoy!
Steve Pike
