  The Buffalo Bird Report is a service provided by your
  Buffalo Museum of Science and the Buffalo Ornithological
  Society. To contact the Science Museum, call 896-5200. Press
  the pound key to report sightings before the end of this
  report.

  Highlights of reports received January 8 through January 15
  from the Niagara Frontier Region.

  In southern Erie County, January 10 and 11, a single
  BOHEMIAN WAXWING feeding on berries in a yard in the Town of
  Sardinia, near Route 240.

  In Shelby, north of the Iroquois Refuge, up to three SHORT-
  EARED OWLS and two NORTHERN HARRIERS this week along Posson
  Road at Fletcher Chapel Road.

  A summary of the Oak Orchard Christmas Bird Count from the
  end of December, reported 63 species wintering in the
  Iroquois Refuge and surrounding areas. Highlights included 4
  CACKLING GEESE, 70 COMMON MERGANSERS, 10 BALD EAGLES, 11
  COOPER'S HAWKS, RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 2
  SWAMP SPARROWS and 15 PINE SISKINS, plus impressive
  woodpecker counts - 64 RED-BELLIED WDPKRS., 1 YELLOW-B.
  SAPSUCKER, 30 HAIRY WOODPECKERS, 23 NORTHERN FLICKERS and 12
  PILEATED WOODPECKERS.

  Other reports this week - 75 TUNDRA SWANS on the Niagara
  River off Buckhorn Island State Park at the north end of
  Grand Island. YELLOW-B. SAPSUCKER at a feeder in the
  Chautauqua County Town of Sheridan. WHITE-CR. SPARROW and
  SONG SPARROW on Waterworks Road in Medina. And in the
  Genesee County Town of Bethany, in the fertilized fields on
  McLernon Road - 95 HORNED LARKS and 25 SNOW BUNTINGS.

  The Bird Report will be updated Thursday evening, January
  22. Please call in your sightings by noon Thursday. You may
