Birders, The OBRC wishes everyone a happy 2015, and hopes to provide an update on recent happenings. Our internal voting has been moving quickly in regards to 2014 bird observations; in preparation for our annual general meeting in a few months time. Before that occurs there are a few items where we could use the help of the birding community:
- Anyone with reports of OBRC "review list" species (available here: http://ofo.ca/site/page/view/obrc.guidelines) observed in 2014 are asked to submit any outstanding doccumetnation by the end of January 2015. This will allow proper time for voting and inclusion in the 2014 OBRC annual report. Documents received later are still encouraged, but will be "held back" a year to the 2015 report. Many of you have already sent in excellent material throughout 2014 and we thank you! Some of the following records were lacking in submissions as of late 2014 that may have been viewed by multiple parties: Swainson's Hawk - 29 Sep - Point Pelee Neotropic Cormorant - 30 Sep+ - Kettle Point Pacific Loon - 26 Oct - Point Pelee Pacific Loon - 9 Nov - Point Pelee Eurasian Collared Dove - fall/winter - inside Point Pelee National Park (dates?) Townsend's Solitaire - 19 Oct+ - Aylmer WMA Kirtland's Warbler - 15 Jun - Carden Alvar Bicknell's Thrush - 31 May - Point Pelee The records listed above are particularly lacking, however all material for all records are encouraged for submission. If you were the finder of a "review list" species, we have particular interest in receiving a report from you - as your viewpoint is unique for that situation! Please submit material and questions to [email protected] --- - Secondly, OBRC policy has been updated in recent years to allow nominations from the birding community for the election of new committee members at our AGM. A good candidate for OBRC membership is someone who: - is a current OFO member in good standing - is an active and engaged member of the Ontario birding community - has demonstrated expertise in Ontario birds - has demonstrated support for the OBRC and its objectives - is prepared to complete all standard and appointed committee tasks in a timely manner - is willing to promote birding in Ontario, both through the OBRC and elsewhere during their tenure An attempt is also made to select members who represent the geographic and demographic breadth of the Ontario birding community. Please send any nominations to [email protected] - and we look forward to hearing from you. --- The OBRC is cognizant of the fact that the support of the birding community is of the highest importance in our ability to properly document records and produce high quality reports. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please contact us. We thank you for your time and energy in sending material, and wish you all of the best in 2015!
