Recent reports to December 4, 2014

Small numbers of winter species are being reported in the Ottawa area. EVENING 
GROSBEAK (20+) are visiting feeders at 1917 Indian Creek Rd Limoges on the west 
edge of Larose Forest and at the north end of Dalkeith St in Pakenham. Very 
small numbers of COMMON REDPOLL and PINE SISKIN are moving around the area, a 
PINE GROSBEAK was reported along the Mer Bleue Bog Trail 53 on the 29th, a few 
LONG-TAILED DUCK, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER and LESSER SCAUP have been seen along 
the Ottawa River at Shirleys Bay and the Deschenes Rapids, a RED-THROATED LOON 
was seen from the Alymer boat launch east of the Deschenes Rapids on the 1st, 
BOHEMIAN WAXWING (2) were found along the Almer Deschenes Rapids shore line on 
the 1st and a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was found along the Schnob Trail 53 near 
Lac Phillipe on the 29th.

Late sightings for our area: COMMON GRACKLE along Prince of Wales Pkwy opposite 
the Fletcher Wildlife Garden on the 28th, GREAT BLUE HERON and WOOD DUCK at a 
number of locations, PINE WARBLER singing in Pakenham on the 30th, SANDHILL 
CRANE (2) on Milton Rd on the 30th, GREEN-WINGED TEAL (2) on the Moodie Dr 
ponds just south of Trail Rd all week, NORTHERN PINTAIL (m) at Strathcona Park 
on the 1st and a HERMIT THRUSH at Baie Simard on the 2nd, NORTHERN PINTAIL (1) 
and GADWALL (2) at Marais du Chemin Grimes on the 3rd 

Interesting sightings were: HARLEQUIN DUCK (f) continues on the Rideau River at 
Strathcona Park, SNOW GOOSE (8000) with CACKLING GOOSE (2) and a PEREGRINE 
FALCON near Russell on the 30th, another Peregrine Falcon at the Trail Rd 
landfill on the 3rd, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET (2) on the Rideau Trail south of 
Kettles Rd. GOLDEN EAGLE near Luskville on the 2nd and a ROSS'S GOOSE was 
reported in the Chesterville area on the 2nd
