Staddon and Paul Pratt all came up for short visits today. Weather: A chilly day with the temperature in the -1C range. The strong winds from 12 - 28 km/hr out of the W and then SW in the afternoon made it feel even colder. Raptor Observations: A total of 96 raptors of 9 species, including 3 Golden Eagles and a late Osprey. Non-raptor Observations: 2,431 non-raptors counted today with 65% being "blackbirds". Species of interest were: Tundra Swan - 154; Bonaparte's Gull - 4; Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 1; and American Goldfinch - 324. Predictions: Mainly cloudy with a 60% chance of snow flurries. The winds are forecast to be similar to today, so the morning should be better than the afternoon for raptor migration. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Todd Pepper ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
