Observation start time: 07:30:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 7.5 hours

Official Counter: Jenna McDermott

Observers: Bob Hall-Brooks, Jim McCoy

Visitors:
3 visitors stopped by today and stayed for quite a while; 2 hunters from
Tennessee and a man from Chatham, visiting after working in the area.

Weather:
Ice through much of the marsh visible from the tower was a telling sign for
the below freezing temperatures this morning. It warmed up to just over 0C
in the afternoon. Winds came from the W and WNW through the day and snow
clouds rolled in around noon.

Raptor Observations:
Small flurries of raptors appeared at intervals, bringing mostly Red-tailed
Hawks (88) but other exciting additions as well, including a dark
colouration Rough-legged Hawk, and 5 Golden Eagles. We had 9 species by the
end of the day. What a lovely day!

Non-raptor Observations:
With much of the water in the marsh frozen, the waterfowl have moved
farther in to the centre of the marsh where they are not as visible from
the tower. A few small groups of Bonaparte's Gulls skimmed close over the
water and most of the passerines were made up by American Crows, Red-winged
Blackbirds, American Goldfinches and European Starlings. See today's eBird
list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S20551788

Predictions:
Going from -2 to 1C with 35km/h winds from the West all day.
