Weather: Winds came from the S, SSE and ESE, going up to 9km/h. It was a beautiful fall day with partial cloud cover and temperatures ranged between 7.2 and 11.1C Raptor Observations: Red-tailed Hawks were the most abundant species today with 32. All the birds seemed in a large hurry, flying continuously across the marsh, even the Turkey Vultures. Sharp-shinned Hawks, Cooper's Hawks and Red-shouldered Hawks were also seen today. A Turkey Vulture with a wing tag was quite the sight to see! Non-raptor Observations: Most of the passerine movement was in the morning. A Ruby-crowned Kinglet with a lovely prominent red crown spent some time in the trees around the tower. 5 Tree Swallows were still seen over the marsh. No Great Egrets were seen today, but the rest of the ducks were feeding as usual, including 3 Buffleheads that couldn't seem to find a good place to rest; they flew around the marsh in circles multiple times. See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S20507503 Predictions: A warmer day, going up to 15C with some rain showers in the afternoon and winds from the south. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
