Weather: There was drizzle and rain throughout the day and full cloud cover. Wind speeds were from 5 to 16km/h from the S and beginning to swing towards the W in the last couple hours. Visibility went up to 8km. Raptor Observations: Raptors decided they didn't want to go anywhere today, so there was much excitement when a Peregrine was the first bird of the day! There were 4 Sharp-shinned Hawks after that point and a dozen Turkey Vultures that thought about migrating but didn't end up going after all. Non-raptor Observations: Migrating passerines were in short supply today with 25 Red-winged Blackbirds, 1 American Goldfinch and 8 American Pipits. 81 Tree Swallows were a nice treat around midday, crossing overhead from west to east. See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S20364700 Predictions: Winds coming from the West should provide a little more bird movement, though they will be quite strong (30km/h). Mixed sun and cloud will make for good viewing of passing birds. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
