All,

The winds were calling at Sarnia at the lakewatch spot near Point Edward today. There was a substantial movement of birds especially Bonaparte's Gulls. One flock contained an adult LITTLE GULL. Just after 10:00, a PARASITIC JAEGER came down the shoreline off Canatara Park and put on a show chasing gulls. It was visible for some time (very close at one point) before it disappeared up the Michigan shoreline. However, it reappeared (assume the same bird!) some time later for more good looks. BLACK SCOTERS were in good supply as I counted 35-40, but there were less than 10 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS.
Lots of HORNED GREBES, but only about 4 COMMON LOONS seen.
A couple of flocks of TUNDRA SWANS were heading south as they have been moving the last couple of days.
Two GREAT EGRETS were seen heading south over the lake.
Four DUNLIN were seen off the Sarnia yacht club.

That is all I have, but I heard there was a Black-legged Kittiwake (adult) seen from the Michigan side while we were there!

Over at Wawanosh Wetlands, 3 TRUMPETER SWANS were present. Two were around earlier in the week, but a third appeared in the last day or so. There are many geese in the area that should be closely scrutinized.

Strong northwest to NNE winds are good for this location.

Directions to Sarnia Lakewatch: Find Front St. in Sarnia (along
river in downtown) and follow it north to St. Clair St. just past the 402
overpass. Turn left on St. Clair St. and follow it to its very north end in
Point Edward past Michigan Ave. Turn left on Victoria Ave. and go less than
two blocks to Fort St. Turn right onto Fort St. and go to the parking lot
at the lake.

Wawanosh Wetlands can be found off Blackwell Sideroad just north of the 402 and London Line east end of Sarnia.

cheers,
