Yes, this sounds like one of our birds. We did apply blue wing-tags to about
154 young, flightless, Great Egrets this year. All of them we banded at
Nottawasaga island, near Collingwood, Ontario….about a 1.5 hr drive NNW of
Toronto.

If you see the bird again, please take a re-newed stab at trying to make out
the markings on the tag. The number will probably be between 94 and 99 and the
ltters could be any of the alphabet.

Good luck,

Cheers,

Chip Weseloh

Very cool. I found these links about Great Egrets with a blue wing tag:

Banded in Ontario in 2014. Seems your bird has come about 600 miles
from its birthplace. Unfortunately, I can't make out the code on the tag.

        Hi,
My name is Kent Robinson. We live in rural Fayette county (40516) and
have had this bird flying around our lake for the last 2 weeks. It is solid
white heron looking bird with blue circular spots on each wing. Do you have
any clue what it is? I have looked everywhere. Acts just like a heron.
        Thanks,
        Kent
