A couple times it looked like we might get some clearing but alas a fresh battalion of gray clouds would soon move in and snuff out any flicker of blue. The wind was strong and out of the southwest throughout. Raptor Observations: Buteos took the day off. Some nice variety otherwise despite limited overall numbers. Non-raptor Observations: Two observations of PARASITIC JAEGER today, one at approximately 1045 am, then another at 1215 pm. On both occasions, the bird was observed low and close, flying inland against the strong southwest wind. Our resident photographer was missing in action, one of the few days he's missed this season, so unfortunately no pictures. Still, some wonderfully memorable sightings for the two of us who were there. As for other birds: Tree Swallow (3000+), Northern Rough-winged Swallow (40+), House Finch (3), Pine Siskin (2), Horned Lark (2), Blue Jay (200+), Red-winged Blackbird (120+). Predictions: Mostly cloudy with moderate northwest wind and a 40 percent chance of rain. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
