Hi there: Today (10 October) from 1405 - 1625, I observed:
64 "Richardson's" Cackling Geese among 4700 - 5000 Canada Geese. Other observations include: Redhead (3), Northern Shoveler (2), Bonaparte's Gull (1), etc. Here is a video of a flock of 43 and a few scattered individuals: Select 'HD' for best viewing. Interestingly, the "hurried", harsh, high-pitched honking of the CACG come through quite nicely in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKxUz7bCD3E&feature=youtu.be. Directions: From Highway 417 (The Queensway) take exit 155 (March Road or Regional Road 49). Turn left or southwest onto March Road and follow it for 16.0 km through Almonte to the gates on the right or northwest for the Almonte Sewage Lagoons. Continue to Ramsay Concession 8 and head right (north) for about 300 m. Look for a small sign marked "Trail." From there, the trail provides access to a nice viewing platform. Good birding, Jon Ruddy _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
