Yeah Yeah, it's a Turkey Vulture. I know it's not rare or a bird anyone
will go look for. However, I think it noteworthy to advise that late
yesterday afternoon, Lisa Teskey and I discovered a wing tagged Turkey
Vulture at the Brooks Road landfill, east of Cayuga. The bird was with
about 20 other vultures, rummaging through the delicious refuse that
Cayugans no longer deem fit to eat. The tag was on the birds right wing,
was orange, and had the letter JPL.I have never seen, or heard of any sort
of tagging of this species, and have seen thousands of these birds.
Hopefully, someone reading this can deliver this info to the right people.

The landfill also hosted hundreds of gulls, mostly Ring-billed, but 4 adult
Herring and a first year Great-black Backed was noteworthy for an inland
location in early October. This spot should be checked regularly for the
rarer gulls as the weather gets colder.

Traveling east of Cayuga on Talbot, one will find Brooks road shortly after
leaving town, then head north on Brooks, and eventually on the east side of
the road, you will see the landfill.

Best,

Len Manning
Lisa Teskey
