Weather: Temperatures rose to 31C with high humidity. The little wind there was came from the S. Visibility was up to 15km. Raptor Observations: The first 5 migrating Bald Eagles of the season were a treat this morning. The rest of the day brought mostly Kestrels, a few Northern Harriers, and a Sharp-shinned Hawk. 2 Merlins dive-bombed and harassed each other on their way through, providing us with good looks at their quick turns and manoeuvres. 19 raptors total. Non-raptor Observations: The day was quiet with little movement of migrating passerines. Mostly swallows passed through in the morning, along with 71 Cedar Waxwings, 35 American Goldfinch, 15 Chimney Swifts, and 3 R-Throated Hummingbirds. Today is the first day the Snowy Egrets didn't visit since they have arrived. See today's eBird list for more sightings http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S19738737 4 Monarchs Predictions: Cooler temperatures with winds coming from the North which should be good for migration. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
