A pair of Red Necked Grebes on a nesting platform at Humber Bay East in Toronto
has a second clutch of 2 eggs, and a first family of 4 chicks. The first are
exactly one month old, I observed the first hatch May 21.
I'm reporting this as I believe it's unusual for them to have more than one
brood. The first egg of the second clutch was laid June 18, the second June 20.
Several regular observers including myself have been tracking the dates. The
nest is in the man made pools just south east of the Parklawn entrance. The
boardwalk that dissects the pond affords nice close views of the birds which
are very accustomed to passersby and photographers.
Hoping for a successful second hatch in a few weeks.
