flying briefly over whimbrel point at ~ 8:00 on May 31, Saturday morning,
alerted me by its' distinctive and repeated three ascending notes, with the
cadence and duration of "one-two-three", with roughly the tone of a kettle
whistle.

It was roughly fifteen inches long, with somewhat rounded wings. Whitish head,
white underside with dark flanks, gull's dark bill.

Any guesses?
