This morning at Nonquon Lagoons near Port Perry was a Piping Plover (possibly
two) in the 1st cell along the eastern edge.
Other shorebirds : 4-5 White-rumped, Semipalmated , Least, Pectoral (1)
sandpipers; Semipalmated Plover, Dunlin, Killdeer, Spotted Sandpipers. I could
not find any phalarope.
The other lagoons were high and unproductive except for ducks : Mallard, BW
Teal, N Shoveler, Lesser Scaup, Ruddy Duck.
Over the 2nd cell were 60 + Black Terns.
Migrants were few : Least Flycatcher, Scarlet Tanager.
Directions : To reach the lagoons, from Highway 401, take Simcoe St. (Oshawa)
north to
Port Perry. At the north end of town, turn left (west) at the stoplights
onto Concession Road 8, cross Old Simcoe St. and proceed a short distance
to the lagoons, on the south side of the road. Note – do NOT follow
Regional Road 8 (the next road south of Concession 8). Note also that you
CANNOT access the lagoons from the west, because the bridge is permanently
out.
