At 4.15 pm today, Thursday May 22, there were over 40 Whimbrel on the rocks of
the Cobourg harbour breakwater – first noted by Ken Niles.
As we scoped them, two long low flocks of Whimbrel flew west behind them, low
over the lake, numbering in total at least 100 birds.
Also on the rocks were 20 breeding-plumaged Dunlin, 3 bright Red Knots, and 2
Ruddy Turnstones.
Unfortunately, just before 5pm someone walked out on the breakwater spooking
first the smaller shorebirds then giving us great views of the tight flock of
Whimbrel as they wheeled about before disappearing westward.
