Good news! Tonight, after a seemingly hopeless wait for the hundreds of
goldeneye to show up for the night at Centennial Park in Washago, they began
streaming in at around 18:35 and at 19:05, while counting the Common Goldeneye
(about 330 were close enough to clearly identify) I spotted the Barrow's
Goldeneye that has been around since late February! Most of the goldeneye were
moving around a lot and competing for mates or sleeping already at this point,
but I managed to re-find it for my girlfriend Nadia. The ducks were much closer
today than the last time we were here, but they were still probably about 1km
away. It was a very tough find and I'd recommend using a quality scope if you
want to find it. It was competing with male COGO for a female COGO for a while,
between the red and green buoys on the open water. Directions to the site are
below, as per Andrew Keaveney and Corey Jenkins. Good luck if anyone is chasing
it, and good birding!
