Dear OFO Members,
As you may have read in the recent issue of OFO News, all OFO members are invited to nominate themselves or other OFO members as potential voting members of the Ontario Bird Records Committee (OBRC). If you wish to make a nomination please email your nominations by Saturday, March 22, 2014 to [email protected]. Please include in your nomination the OFO members name and a brief explanation of why you think they would make a good OBRC member. The primary duty of OBRC members is to review documentation of Ontario's rarest bird species, specifically those on the OBRC review list. The OBRC is holding its annual meeting on March 23, 2014 at which time three members, Mike Burrell, Ken Burrell, and Doug McRae will complete their three year terms on the committee. Elections will be held at that time to replace the members who are leaving. The OBRC would like to strive to maintain a committee that is representative of the birding community in Ontario, preferably with members from a range of geographic locations. One of the major ways the committee assesses potential members is the quality of OBRC submissions made by that person. The committee will also review the new three zone review system for Ontario, which splits northern Ontario roughly in half (*splitting out the Hudson Bay Lowlands*), as voted on by the 2012 committee. If you are knowledgeable about the birds of northern Ontario and would like to review the new review lists for that region, please email [email protected]. Thanks very much for your time; we will be posting a summary of the meeting on Ontbirds shortly after it happens. Meeting minutes should also be available at that time.
