  report.

Highlights of reports received March 6 through March 13 from
  the Niagara Frontier Region.

In spite of a mid-week blizzard, early spring migrants and
hardy winter residents persevere across the region. Singing
CAROLINA WRENS reported from Belfast in Allegany County to
Goat Island in Niagara Falls. During the March 12 blizzard,
feeders attracted RED-W. BLACKBIRDS on Grand Island and
COMMON GRACKLES in Eggerstville. Other reports included
KILLDEER, AMERICAN ROBIN, EASTERN BLUEBIRD and SONG SPARROW
  this week.

On Lake Ontario in Orleans County, a reported male ROSE-BR.
GROSBEAK continues at a feeder in Sunset Beach.

The harsh winter piles more hardship on wintering waterfowl,
sending diving ducks to an unexpected location - the ponds
on Reist Street and at Amherst State Park in the Village of
Williamsville. On the ponds this week - CANVASBACK,
REDHEAD, RING-NECKED DUCK, GREATER SCAUP, LESSER SCAUP,
BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON GOLDENEYE and RED-BR. MERGANSER. Also a
GREEN-WINGED TEAL and D.-CREST. CORMORANT at Amherst State
  Park.

March 9, two BLACK VULTURES at their unique winter location
  - Mohawk Street in the Niagara County Village of Lewiston.
Post-blizzard, a BALD EAGLE soaring over Williamsville.
Other BALD EAGLES this week on the Lake Ontario shore and
plains. March 7 in the Iroquois Refuge, 10 ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWKS at the Forestell Flats, at Route 63 and Oak Orchard
Ridge Road. North of the refuge, up to 8 SHORT-EARED OWLS on
Posson Road in the Town of Shelby.

The widespread SNOWY OWL irruption will recede northward -
whether there will be an increase in sightings will be of
interest. March 9, two SNOWY OWLS on the ice shelf north of
Navy Island, viewed from the Robert Moses Parkway in Niagara
  Falls.

Other reports this week - L. BLACK-B. GULL at Goat Island.
NORTHERN SHRIKE at Krull Park in Olcott. 75 TUNDRA SWANS on
the east Niagara River off Grand Island and 37 TUNDRA SWANS
at the mouth of Johnson Creek at Lake Ontario.

The Bird Report will be updated Thursday evening, March 20.
Please call in your sightings by noon Thursday. You may
report sightings after the tone. Thank you for calling and
  reporting.
