Hi, Everyone, Yesterday around 5 pm at Kingston's Invista warm water pond I had the pleasure of the red-necked grebe and a snowy owl in the same field of view. The snowy was on the lakeside breakwater, on the ground, looking left and right to open water on both sides, and lots of waterfowl.
Others included: gadwall, a few ring-necks, scaup (1 female), coots, a few common goldeneye, common and red-breasted mergs, Canada geese, a couple of redheads, herring gull, ring-billed gulls, mallards (oodles), a pair of black ducks, and one large domestic mallard-ish male among the mallards (had a white breast and green head). One question: on my two recent visits there has been a skittish hawk onshore, toward the Invista plant, quick to fly. I think it's an immature red-tail (by the tail colours and bands), but I'm not sure. Any help with this one?
